Like all casting processes, Indiana foundries require large volumes of sand, which are continually used, reconditioned, and reused in the foundry. Nationally, metalcasters use and reuse almost 100 million tons of sand annually.
Sand that can no longer be reused in the foundry process is available for beneficial reuse. Most foundries have installed sand reclamation systems that screen the metal and debris out of the sand so that a good, clean product is available for reuse in a variety of applications by various industries. Some of the beneficial reuses of foundry sand are: construction fill, road sub-base, grouts and mortars, land application, soil amendment, cement manufacturing, pre-cast concrete products, highway barriers, pipe bedding, asphalt, cemetery vaults, bricks and pavers, and landfill daily cover.
Here is a map that will help you find foundries in your area that may generate sand available for your use. Simply drag your cursor over the state image and the counties that have foundries will appear in the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. If the information does not appear, no foundries are listed in that county. Click on the county you desire, and a list of the foundries with available sand, will be displayed.
